Sorry I can't help but I have the same or similar problem I believe.  I never thougth I'd say this but the older 3.2.1.1 version was a lot better thus far despite having to wait 4 hours for Nessus to acknowledge my Nessus server was started and let me start scanning after plugin updates.

I have the same issue - port is bound to 8834 in netstat, and logging says webserver is started without errors.

Are you sure the Nessus Service is running?  If it isn't running you wont be able to connect.

  • Re: I am unable to connect https://localhost:8834/

Try checkiing the option "Allow remote users to connect to this Nessus server" on the Nessus server Manager.

    Try

    sudo /opt/nessus/sbin/nessus-service -D

    And reload the page.

    Hi,

I spent 2 days on this and 3 long 'chats'/phone calls with support before I found how to fix this.   While I was not "localhost" because nessusd was installed on a server (SuSE enterprise server 11) the symptoms were nearly identical so i thought I would share what I found.

With tcpdump I could see the packet arriving on the server, but they didn't seem to be making it to nessusd.  Turns out it was a problem iptables.

Here is what I used :

    iptables --table filter -I INPUT 1 -p tcp --dport 8834 -j ACCEPT

I know it is very unrestricted, but it is in the lab.

Chain INPUT (policy DROP) target    prot opt source  destination

ACCEPT    tcp  --  anywhere            anywhere            tcp dpt:8834

    ACCEPT    all  --  anywhere            anywhere

ACCEPT    all  --  anywhere            anywhere            state ESTABLISHED

ACCEPT    icmp --  anywhere            anywhere            state RELATED

    input_ext  all  --  anywhere            anywhere

    input_ext  all  --  anywhere            anywhere

LOG        all  --  anywhere            anywhere            limit: avg 3/min burst 5 LOG level warning tcp-options ip-options prefix `SFW2-IN-ILL-TARGET '

    DROP      all  --  anywhere            anywhere

    I hope this helps
